(Anita) Griswold hit the first basket, but CAM answered with 15 straight points and the Cougars never looked back Thursday night in Anita. The Rolling Valley Conference runner-up picked up a 74-20 win and advance to face Riverside at home on Tuesday, February 18th.
CAM’s 15-0 stretch in the first quarter combined with scoring the first nine points of the second quarter quickly put the game out of reach. They accelerated to a 30-4 edge early in the 2nd quarter thanks to strong pressure defense. Zoey Baylor had 8 steals and Reese Snyder had 7. Four different CAM players hit a 3-pointer in the early going–Sammi Jahde, Allison Spieker, Marissa Spieker, and Reese Snyder. They shot 44% beyond the arc on the night with 11 long balls. Jahde hit five of them and finished with 17 points. Marissa Spieker scored 12, Mallory Behnken with 11, and 10 each from Zoey Baylor and Allison Spieker.
CAM is making their four game losing streak late in the regular season look more and more like distant memory. They’ve won back-to-back games by a combined 125-54. On Thursday night they collected 25 steals and were able to get up 75 shot attempts. CAM moves to 15-6 with the victory and will host a 4-win Riverside squad that bounced Heartland Christian 55-52 on Thursday.
Griswold got very few clean looks at the basket. Hampering the cause were an injury to Josie Mundorf and Hope Ogg’s foul trouble. The junior guard picked up four fouls and sat for the final 7:40 of the first half which limited the Tiger’s ball handling options. Ogg and Kalainee Teaney each fouled out of the contest with four points apiece to their credit. Jordyn Main was the top scorer for the Tigers with 7. They end their year at 2-18.
