(Atlantic) Atlantic firefighters were called to a report of smoke inside a building at 412 Chestnut Street on Friday morning.
Atlantic Fire Chief Tom Cappel tells KSOM/KS95 News the call came in at around 9:00 a.m. Cappel says they initially thought the fire started in the back of the Brymon’s Interior store, but they soon discovered it was coming from an upstairs apartment currently being remodeled.
“Construction crews are remodeling a couple of upper-level apartments and they were using linseed oil and are using sawdust as a sweeping agent,” said Cappel. “The substance was placed in garbage can three-or-four days ago. Yesterday he stirred it up, and it must have received enough oxygen to re-ignite it.”
Cappel says there’s no damage to Brymon’s or to the upper-level apartment.
