(Shenandoah) Three players scored in double figures to lead Atlantic past Shenandoah 57-45 in a boys basketball game at Shenandoah on Friday night.
“It’s always nice to get that first win after the break, especially on the road,” said Atlantic Head Coach Jeff Ebling. “We didn’t play a great game tonight, but we still came out on the road and got the win.”
Skyler Handlos led the Trojans with 16-points, Nile Petersen scored 14, and Craig Alan Becker added ten-points for the Trojans. Dayton Templeton contributed nine-points and Ethan Williams chipped in two, and dished off a handful of assists from the low post for the Trojans now (3-5), on the season.

Shenandoah rolled out to a 17-12 first-quarter lead. But the home team saw their advantage melt away in the second quarter. Craig Alan Becker, Grant Sturm, and Dayton Templeton all connected from long range in to ignite the Trojan rally resulting in a 28-25 lead at the break.
Atlantic’s advantage ballooned to 36-25 on Craig Alan Becker’s two-point basket midway through the third quarter. However, Shenandoah charged right back. Braden Knight’s basket capped a 13-0 run with 1:55 left in the frame to put the Mustangs up 38-36. But, the Trojans cooled off the Mustang’s hot hand with seven straight points to gain a 43-38 lead at the end of the third quarter. Nile Petersen scored four of the seven points during the run. The Trojans capped off the game by outscoring the Mustangs 14-7 in the final quarter to secure the 57-45 victory.
“We’re still learning,” said Ebling. “We had one senior on the floor for the majority of the game along with some juniors and sophomores. There’s still some teaching going on which will make us stronger during the second half of the season.”
Atlantic hosts Glenwood on Monday night. Shenandoah travels to Fremont-Mills on January 9.
