(Guthrie Center) ACGC has matched the longest win streak in their very brief history with a 3rd consecutive triumph. The Chargers downed non-conference foe Glidden-Ralston 50-44 in a really tight game on Thursday in Guthrie Center.
The Chargers and Wildcats changed leads a dozen times and neither team ever led by more than seven. The majority of the fourth quarter was played within a margin of three points.
EmmaKay McClain scored 13 points, Kennedy Young had 10, and Alaina Bunde pitched in 9 in the win for the Chargers. The ACGC full court press finally forced some turnovers in the game’s final minutes and it helped the home squad break a 41-all tie with a 9-3 stretch to end the contest. The six point swing down the stretch was nearly as big of a momentum shift as either team experienced all night. ACGC led by 6 at the end of the first quarter, but a 9-1 rally by Glidden-Ralston late in the first half put the visitors up 26-24. ACGC called timeout and drew up a nice set to get a McClain driving basket at the 2nd quarter horn to tie the game at 26.
A low scoring third quarter ensued. ACGC built the lead to 31-28, but a Jenna Klocke 3-pointer tied it and the teams traded baskets throughout the rest of the third and into the early stages of the 4th.
The Wildcats were led by Gretchen Wallace with 19 points, but Glidden-Ralston made just a pair of trips to the free-throw line all night and went 2/4. ACGC on the other hand was 11/20 from the line and 18 of those attempts came in the 2nd half. The Chargers move to 4-2 on the year ahead of a tilt with Panorama on Friday. Glidden-Ralston goes to 1-5 on the season.
