(Atlantic) Jim Tyler, of Atlantic, will appear on an episode of Air Warriors: P-38 Lightning on the Smithsonian Channel this weekend.
Jim Tyler was a P-38 fighter pilot in World War II. He was interviewed by the Smithsonian Channel while visiting the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum in Granite Falls, Minnesota. The museum houses a P-38 among other World War II aircraft and vehicles.
Jim Tyler is not sure what part of the interview will air during the Air Warriors episode, but he spoke about his time as a fighter pilot in World War II. Tyler said he enlisted in the fall of 1942 and in early spring of 1943 he learned to fly in a Piper J-3 Cub. Tyler went on to Santa Ana, California for classification. He said they classify you as either a candidate for pilot, bombardier, or navigator.
Jim Tyler eventually made his way to his fighter base in Triolo, Italy where he stayed until he came home.
