(Red Oak) The Red Oak Community School District will soon be advertising the sale of two school-owned properties. Red Oak Schools Superintendent Tom Messinger says the bids will be due to the School Board prior to the April 13th board meeting.
“This should give people a considerable amount of time to look at the buildings to decide what they want to do,” stated Messinger.
The bid opening will be followed by a public hearing during the first meeting in May. There are three different properties to be considered for bid. One is the Webster location, the other the Bancroft location and the third one is the empty lot located south of the Bancroft building.
The Webster location is used for storage and the heating system needs to be replaced. The Bancroft Building was used for bus parking. Messinger says there has been some interest, and the board is now in a position to start the selling process.
“Neither of the buildings are set up for anyone to move into without some significant repairs or work done to them,” said Messinger.
In June 2019, Red Oak School District patrons voted to pass a school bond issue to renovate the high school and Inman Elementary. Messinger says the district has gone through the vast majority of their long-range facilities plan in less than five-years. The sale of the three sites will accomplish the district’s goal of a two-campus system.
“It definitely helped to sell the Middle School and the fact the project came in under budget in a lot of areas,” explained Messinger. “A lot of different things fell into place at the right time to allow us to get things done. So it’s worked out well.”
The next Red Oak School Board meeting is scheduled for January 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the Red Oak CSD Inman Primary Campus.
