(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors received a report from Advance Southwest Iowa Corporation on Tuesday.
Shalimar Mazetis, Rural Development Manager, said they have a lot going on right now and she wanted to note that everyone has come through for the City of Minden in wonderful and miraculous ways following the April 26th tornado.
Mazetis said in thinking about how to support Minden through the next two years, they came up with a Minden Disaster Recovery and Resiliency Program Manager.
The initial funding for this position came from the Iowa West Foundation, as well as some funding from United Way.
In her project update, Mazetis noted that Judge Richard Distillery opened in Carson on August 2nd. In addition to the Distillery, the back side of the building has three Airbnb’s. She said they have funding fully locked in for a dog care facility outside of Avoca that is expanding. C&A Scales in Minden was awarded $105,856 in incentives through the High Quality Jobs program to rebuild and expand their business following the tornado. And, Mazetis said they will have some new commercial or industrial land, possibly up to 200 acres, available in Oakland soon.
