(Harlan, IA) — The countdown is on for the Harlan Cyclone baseball team as they get ready for Monday’s first round state tournament game against North Polk (11:30 am first pitch, coverage on 96.5 KSOM).
Harlan will be practicing all week long and are sky high after beating Lewis Central 10-0 in 5 innings in the Substate Final. The Cyclones lost to Western Dubuque 10-0 in last year’s first round and Head Coach Heath Stein hopes this year will be a different story
The Cyclones have made their run at state this year without their best hitter. Cade Sears had to leave the team early, heading to South Dakota St. to prepare for his football career. However other players have stepped up like Catcher Hayden Soma, who hit his first homer of the season against Lewis Central and his first HR since 8th grade. Stein says Soma gives the Cyclones an instant energy boost
6th seeded Harlan 27-8 battles #3 seed North Polk 26-6 in the state baseball tournament in Cedar Rapids. First pitch at 11:30 am, coverage on 96.5 KSOM.
