(Des Moines, IA) — A proposal loosening child labor laws in Iowa passes through the House after approving bipartisan revisions. The bill lets 16 and 17-year-olds work eight-hour days, kids under 16 work up to six hours a day, and lets kids do jobs that they’re currently barred from. Changes to the bill make sure 14 and 15-year-olds cannot work in dangerous conditions, such as meatpacking or mining. It says restaurants and barns need two adults to supervise 16 and 17-year-olds serving alcohol, and requires all employees to complete sexual harassment training. The bill needs to be passed by the Senate before going to the desk of Governor Reynolds.
