(Iowa City, IA) — An Iowa City man could spend the rest of his life in prison for setting an apartment on fire with several people inside. This week Ishmael Carter was convicted of first-degree arson and five counts of first-degree attempted murder. He’s accused of setting an Iowa City apartment on fire back in 2021 with his ex-girlfriend, her boyfriend, and three kids inside. Everyone survived and the fire did about 50-thousand dollars worth of damage. Carter faces 25 years in prison on each count and will be sentenced in April.
