(Atlantic) The Atlantic girl’s notched their fourth straight win on Tuesday night with a 49-42 home victory over Kuemper.
The Trojans raced to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter. Aubrey Guyer hit three close-range shots, and Jada Jensen and Paytn Harter each scored four points in the first frame. Guyer would finish the game with 12-points, her second straight game she’s tallied double figures. Harder ended the night with nine.
Kuemper battled back in the second quarter, outscoring the home team 12-10. Lauren Boelle and Frannie Glynn led the way with four points apiece, closing the gap to 24-19 at the break. Boelle finished the game with six points, and Glynn ended with nine.
Kuemper tied the game at 28-28 with 3:50 left in the third quarter and pulled ahead 32-31 at the 2:13 mark. Catherine Mayhall, Kuemper’s leading scorer, held to no points in the first half, broke loose in the third quarter, knocking down a three-point shot; Aubrey Heuton added four points. The Trojans regained the lead with five unanswered points, including Guyers three-point basket at the buzzer to end the third frame with a 36-32 advantage. Guyer and Jensen combined for nine of the Trojans’ 12 third-quarter points. Jensen led all scorers with 18 points.
The Trojans opened up a 45-36 lead in the final frame and hung on to win 49-42. Maddie Huddleson splashed down a critical three-point basket down the stretch, and Jensen scored six fourth-quarter points and finished the night with 18. Huddleson and Maddie Richter each scored five points on the night.
Mayhall led Kuemper with nine points, four short of her season average.
The Trojans are (5-2) on the season and travel to Lewis Central on Friday night. The Knights fall to (2-3) and host Kingsley-Pierson on Friday.
