(Ames) Iowa State had late opportunities to rally back against Oklahoma, but turned the ball over twice in the fourth quarter and fell to the Sooners, 27-13.
The only touchdown of the first half was a Sooner fake field goal which saw kicker Zach Schmit catch a two yard scoring pass from punter Michael Turk. Oklahoma extended their lead to 20-6 with a 3rd quarter TD pass from Dillon Gabriel to Jalil Farooq.
Iowa State got a TD connection from Hunter Dekkers to Jaylin Noel early in the 4th quarter to make a game of it, but the Cyclones were never able to close any closer than within seven.
Oklahoma’s rushing attack put up 182 yards, led by Eric Gray’s 102 yards and one score on 20 carries. Iowa State managed just nine rushing yards in the first half and 66 for the game. Quarterback Hunter Dekkers was the leading rusher with 31 yards on four attempts. Dekkers passed for 308 yards. Dimitri Stanley tallied 90 receiving yards on six receptions. Xavier Hutchinson caught ten passes for 72 yards.
Next week Iowa State will host West Virginia. Both teams are 3-5.
