(Creston) On Friday, Creston travels to North Polk for a Class 3A first-round playoff game. The Panthers are (6-3), and North Polk is (7-2).
Creston swept the non-district competition and fell short to Harlan, ADM, and Atlantic in District play. Panthers Head Coach Brian Morrison says winning their non-district schedule proved valuable in qualifying for the playoffs.
Coach Morrison says North Polk is a good football team playing in a competitive district. The Comets have depth at quarterback. Reggie Postel has completed 60/87 passes for 633 yards for ten touchdowns, and Isaac Zoske is 61/87 for 563 yards and four touchdowns.
North Polk’s rushing yards total of 1,262, led by Brady Miller. The senior averages 5.1 yards per carry for 947 yards and 12 touchdowns. Morrison says the Comet’s offense is not something that has not been seen before.
Creston’s rushing attack is solid with 1,890 yards, averages 6.5 yards per carry, and opens up the aerial game. Senior quarterback Kyle Strider is 104/209 passing for 1,586 yards.
Turnovers also play a significant role in games like this. The Panthers have forced five fumbles and intercepted 13-passes.
North Polk has eight fumble recoveries and eight interceptions.
