(Sergeant Bluff) Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s big runs in the third quarter lead to a 49-25 win over Atlantic in a Class 3A regional semifinal girl’s basketball game at Sergeant-Bluff on Wednesday night.
The Warrior’s entered the contest allowing an average of 39-points per game, and they lived up to their billing, holding Atlantic to nine first-half points. Atlantic’s half-court zone defense didn’t budge, limiting the Warriors to 12 points. Emma Walker carried the Warriors offensively with nine first-half points. Payton Harder led Atlantic with five.
The Warriors settled into a rythum on offense from the get-go in the third quarter. Katelyn Sales buried three long-range shots, Salker added three close-ranged buckets, and Alexa Trover went 4-4 from the free-throw line, leading to a 24-point third stanza while holding the Trojans to eight points. Sergeant Bluff-Luton rolled to a 36-17 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Warriors put a bow on it with 13 fourth-quarter points while allowing the Trojans eight.
Emma Salker led the Warriors with 17-points, Katelyn Sale, 12, and Maddie Hinkle finished with ten points, Alexa Trevor scored seven, and Kamea Kalsbeek made one of two free throws.
Harter led Atlantic with 11-points for the game. Jada Jensen scored eight points. Aubrey Guyer chipped in four points and Malena Woodward tossed in two points.
