(Des Moines, IA) — Right now, there are no physicians serving as members of the Iowa legislature, but that could soon change. At least two doctors are running for seats in the Iowa House, including 37-year-old Austin Baeth of Des Moines, who practices internal medicine. He told WHO TV that “no one cares about their blood sugar levels” when they’re working “two jobs just trying to make rent.” Infectious disease physician Megan Srinivas is also seeking a Des Moines-area House seat, while endocrinologist Kathleen Figaro is running for an open Senate seat in the Quad Cities area. All three are running as Democrats.
