(Pleasant Hill, IA) — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident where witnesses say a pedestrian walked into traffic and was hit by a truck. Deputies were called to the accident on Highway 163 east of Pleasant Hill around 10:00 a-m. The driver of the truck which carries roll-off dumpsters was uninjured. There are no sidewalks or crosswalks in the area and the posted speed limit is 65miles-an-hour. The Sheriff’s Department says the preliminary investigation shows the truck driver was not at fault–and they are trying to identify the victim and determine why the person entered the roadway.
