(St. Louis, MO) David Carr, of Iowa State, won the 157 pound weight class and Spencer Lee, of Iowa, won the 125 pound weight class at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Saturday night.
Carr, a redshirt sophomore from Canton, Ohio, capped off a 20-0 season with his 4-0 victory over in the finals over Rider’s Jesse Dellavecchia. Carr has a 38-1 record in his college career. He joins his dad Nate Carr as a national champion for the Cyclones.
Lee, a senior from Murrysville, Pennsylvania, wins his third national championship. He fought through an injury and downed Arizona State’s Brandon Courtney in the finals, 7-0. He ends the season at 12-0. Lee is the seventh three-time champion in Iowa Hawkeye program history.
Iowa won the team title with 129 points. Jaydin Eierman (141) and Michael Kemerer (174) each finished as a runner-up. Third place showings came from Austin DeSanto (133) and Tony Cassioppi (285). Other All-Americans for the Hawks were Jacob Warner (4th at 197) and Kaleb Young (7th at 157).
Iowa State scored 37.5 points to tie for 13th. In addition to Carr’s title, heavyweight Gannon Gremmel was 5th.
UNI was 19th with 24.5 points. Leading the Panthers was freshman Parker Keckeisen in 3rd place at 184 pounds.
