Tyson Todd Petersen was born on April 23, 1986, in Atlantic, Iowa. He attended school in Audubon and graduated with the Class of 2004. He spent most of his life farming—either on his own farm in Hamlin or custom harvesting across Iowa, Nebraska, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. He was well known for his black GMC trucks, personalized license plates, and his strong dedication to his business, Petersen Harvesting.
Tyson will always be remembered for his distinctive sense of humor—uniquely his own. Anyone who knew him could count on his foul-mouthed, inappropriate jokes to bring laughter. He loved to talk and was often seen with his phone in hand. Anyone who visited his home could clearly see how deeply he cared for his close family and friends, reflected in the photos, notes on the refrigerator, and personal reminders throughout his house.
Tyson passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the age of 40. He was preceded in death by two individuals he deeply loved—his fiancée, Karmen Grabill, and his brother, Travis Petersen—both of whom were also his best friends. Tyson was also preceded in death by his grandparents: Russell and Bonnie Petersen; Fred and Elaine Baier; and Charles and Jean Griffith.
Tyson is survived by his daughters, Kylie and Whitney Petersen, and their mother, Jennifer Wanser; his girlfriend, Allisen Deist, and her son, Kaden Fransen; his in-laws, Troy and DeEtte Grabill; his parents, Carol (Kent) Baier and Tim (Nessa) Feltner; his sisters, Melissa (Tyler) Thygesen and Tiffany (Ian) Steensen; nieces and nephews, Hannah and Logan Thygesen, Bria and Barrett Steensen, and Brooks and Baylor Petersen; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation with family greeting friends will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Please meet the family at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimballton on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. for graveside services.
