Norma Janice Landon, the daughter of Gustaff and Jessie (Inman) Bergstrom, was born October 27, 1936, in rural Pottawattamie County. Norma died June 6, 2026, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE, at the age of 89 years 7 months, and 10 days.
Norma attended school in Griswold, graduating from Griswold High School with the class of 1936. While in high school, she met Donald Landon. Norma then attended Northwest Missouri State University. Norma and Donald were married in December 1956. They lived in Fort Hood, TX, for several years, before returning to Griswold. They moved to La Vista, NE, where Norma began working for Western Electric in Omaha. Norma retired in 1990, and she and Donald moved back to Griswold to be closer to her siblings. Norma lived in Griswold until the time of her death.
Norma was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church. She was active in the Commemorative Air Force where she served as curator of the museum and traveled all over the United States delivering and picking up parts. She and Donald enjoyed traveling, and had traveled to all 50 states, along with Canada and Mexico. She spent countless hours volunteering at the Cass County Museum and enjoyed reading and driving her 1946 Willies Jeep. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Lloyd and Lyle Bergstrom.
She is survived by her husband Donald Landon of Griswold, IA; her son Kirk Landon and wife Mecca of Papillion, NE; her granddaughter Raquel Sullivan and husband Dustin of Ralson, NE; and her great grandsons Declan and Jameson Sullivan of Ralston, NE. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service for Norma will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at the Griswold United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will start at 10:30 AM, at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Whipple Cemetery. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
