(Anita, IA) — When it comes to the opening game of the 8 Man football season, there is no better match up across the state than Audubon visiting CAM, coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM and westerniowatoday.com
Audubon comes in as the 8th ranked team in 8 Man and has lost this rivalry game four years in a row. The Wheelers are coming off an 8-2 season and return starting quarterback Aaron Olsen who ran for 1,203 yards and 16 TD but Head Coach Sean Birks decided that wasn’t the best way to utilize his talents so Olsen moves to Tailback to replace Evan Alt and 6-4 Junior Colton Wessel moves into the starting quarterback role. Birks says Olsen is all in on the switch
Olsen and Guard Colton Hansen were voted the team captains for the year; Hansen anchors the offensive line at the left guard spot and Birks has seen a sophomore emerge at the center position
Birks says that McLain will get the start this week. Junior Austin Christensen anchors the defense; the linebacker had 90.5 tackles and 12 tackles for a loss. Overall, Birks says that 8 Man football is tough west of Des Moines and he wants his team to be in the mix of great football teams
For CAM, this season will start a lot different than Head Coach Barry Bower had planned for. All State QB Chase Spieker broke his leg during baseball season and is out for the football season. So now Senior Makade Paulsen gets his shot at quarterback and Bower says he is kind of a linebacker playing QB
Sophomore Kayden Winther will get a chance to start at tailback with Senior Brayden Chester at fullback. Collin Bower, the coach’s cousin, will be at one tight end and is expected to anchor the defensive line and his Uncle says the Collin has the ability to take over any game
Overall, CAM has plenty of talent but Bower is worried about depth
CAM hosts Audubon tonight, Pre Game at 6:30, Kickoff 7pm on KSOM 96.5 FM and westerniowatoday.com
