(Area) The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association released its All-State Baseball Teams on Thursday evening.
In Class 2A, it was no surprise that Underwood dominated the team with five players honored, three on the first team. Sophomore and future Iowa Hawkeye Garrett Luett (.490, 3 HR, 33 RBI; 10-0 pitching, 0.60 ERA), Senior Jack Vanfossan (.398, 2. 29; 9-0, 0.66) and Senior Mason Boothby (.571, 3, 24; 8-0, 0.74) represented the state champs. Senior Ryker Adair (.345, 1, 25) was named to the Second Team All State and Junior Easton Robertson (.338, 0, 15) was selected to the Third Team.
Elsewhere in Class 2A, Carroll Kuemper had two players selected — Senior Carter Putney (.289, 2, 20; 3.78 ERA) was named to the Second Team and Senior Benicio Lujano (.345, 1, 27) went on the Third Team. Clarinda Sophmore Creighton Tuzzio (.387, 4 HR, 39 RBI) was selected to the second team, and Clarinda Senior Cole Baumgart (.402, 1, 19) was also named to the Third Team.
In Class 3A, Glenwood Senior Kayden Anderson (.543, 11, 44) was named to the Coaches Super Team after winning the Hawkeye Ten triple crown, leading the conference in batting average, home runs and RBIs. Rams Senior Trent Patton (.442, 5, 41) was a Third Team All State selection. Harlan Senior Quinn Koesters (.345, 0 ,23) was a Third Team selection. Lewis Central had two players selected to the Third Team — Seniors Brody Goeser (.358, 2, 40) and Luke Woltmann (.382, 2, 11). Creston also had two players on the Third Team — Senior Cael Turner (.405, 1, 22; 6-2, 2.70) and Junior Parker Varner (.256; 9-2, 1.52)
In Class 1A, Coon Rapids Bayard Sophomore Cal Heydon (.489, 4, 36; 6-0, 1.91) was a First Team All State selection. Lenox had three players honored — Sophomore Dawson Evans (.458, 2, 21) was on the Second Team; Senior Carter Reed (.329; 5-1, 2.01) and Junior Gabe Funk (.357, 1, 18; 5-1, 2.46) made it to the Third Team.
The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches selected Joey Oakie of Ankeny Centennial as the Player of the Year. Gehrig Turner of Solon was the All Academic Player of the Year. Leadership awards went to Corder Noun Harder of Lynnnville Sully, Jackson Mishlar of Linn-Mar, Grant Rychnovsky of ADM and Reece Wrage of North Polk. The Paul Keitel Memorial Award went to Klayton Bolkema of Davenport North.
