Health Professionals and Advocates Speak on Iowa’s New Abortion Law

(Iowa) — Iowa’s new abortion law, one of the strictest in the country, is now in effect. The law bans abortions about six weeks into a pregnancy with limited exceptions. OB/GYNs are concerned about the potential impact on women’s health and well-being, as the law requires them to seek permission for medical emergencies from non-medical personnel.  Proponents of the law, like Dubuque County Right to Life, see it as a win for unborn children and aim to protect every human life. However, critics, including abortion care patient Allison Bierman, argue that the law does not account for the individual circumstances of each pregnancy and could have detrimental effects on women and families.
