(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys’ track team will have 14 participants competing in eleven events at the State Track Meet in Des Moines next week. The Trojans qualified five relays, including a school record-setting 4×100 meter, and six individual events. Atlantic Head Coach Abby Becker was thrilled with the team’s outcome and effort.
The Trojans qualified in three of the four field events. Xavier Darrow threw the discus a personal best of 156-06 and qualified for the state meet. Gavin McLaren tossed a personal best of 52-07.00 in the shot put, and Colton Rasmussen had a personal best jump of 21-07.75 in the Long Jump. He also made the field in the High Jump. Coach Becker says Darrow improved his previous best effort by 10 feet.
The Trojans’ five relays include the Sprint Medley, with Jaice Larsen, Devon Fields, Tye Houser, and Grant Petty as the baton carriers. The 4×100 meter relay broke a school record set in 1998 of 43.99. Dante Hedrington, Ethan McNeal, Jaice Larson, and Tye Houser in a time of 43.81.
Meanwhile, Tye Houser qualified in the 100 and 200 meters, and the Shuttle Hurdle Relay is in with Colton Rasmussen, Shelton Maulia, Dante Hedrington, and Grant Petty. The 4×800 team of Alex Sonntag, Bennett Whetstone, Colin Rudy, and Preston Williams is in, and the 4×400 meter relay team of Rudy, Sonntag, Petty, and Devon Fields.
The State Track meet is May 16, 17, and 18th.
