(Des Moines,) The Iowa countryside is currently “extremely combustible,” according to National Weather Service meteorologist Rod Donovan. He says Iowans can expect more red flag warnings until fields begin to turn green. Donovan says a big fire was seen west of Colfax Sunday across grassland, and satellite data has shown several hot spots in the state over the past week and a half.
Southwest Iowa could get some relief this week from the dry landscape. According to the National Weather Service, there is a 20 percent chance of rain on Wednesday night, a 60 percent chance of rain on Thursday, and a 70 percent chance of a quarter to a half inch of rain on Thursday night.
