(Ames, IA) – The Iowa State Cyclones have announced that Colby Kratch has been named as the new linebackers coach for the 2024 season. He previously spent the 2023 season as the linebackers coach for the North Texas Mean Green.
Kratch returns to Iowa State after a six-year stint with the Cyclones from 2017-22, he formally spent the 2017 season as a graduate assistant and moved his way up as the assistant director of player personnel. He held the role until 2022 when taking a job with the Mean Green. While at North Texas, he helped the Mean Green’s Jordan Brown rank in the top 15 in the AAC in tackles. Before arriving at Iowa State, he spent two years as a graduate assistant at Michigan State, working with the offensive line where the Spartans went on to qualify for the College Football Playoffs.
His father, Bob Kratch played for eight years for the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Bob was a two-time All-Big Ten selection playing for Iowa from 1986-88. In the announcement, Head Coach Matt Campbell said, “Colby brings great familiarity with our program and defensive system after being part of our staff for more than five years. He gained valuable experience last season at North Texas and returns having a great rapport with our staff and many of our players. He’s played an important role in the success of our program and will fit right in.”
Kratch will join an Iowa State team that went 7-6 last season and 6-3 in Big XII action.
