(Ames, IA) – The Iowa State Cyclones fell to the Drake Bulldogs 85-73 on Sunday at Drake as the Cyclones could not pull back in the game. The Cyclones were held to just four points in the second quarter, and even after outscoring Drake in the third, the defense was not able to hold the Bulldogs in the fourth.
Iowa State was led by Audi Crooks as she led for the first time in her career. The freshman had a 23-point performance in just 18 minutes of action while pulling in three rebounds. Hannah Belanger was right behind her with 11 points and went 3-6 from downtown. Diew Nyamer also earned nine points for the Cyclones and pulled down four rebounds. The Bulldogs featured three players who scored 20 points or more. Taylor McAulay led the Bulldogs with 27 points going 9-14 from the field while surpassing her career-high in the first half alone. Following McAulay was Grace Berg with 22 points and five rebounds with two swiping steals. Following Berg was Katie Dinnebier with 20 points and six steals.
This game was one of Drake’s largest winning games against Iowa State since December of 2003 when they beat the Cyclones 61-36 in the Knapp Center. Drake head coach Allison Pohlman said in a conference after that game that, “I’m so proud of the stretch we have had to start the year.”
Iowa State moves on to play Southern at home next Monday, November 20th at 6:30 p.m. Drake will take on #3 ranked Iowa in their next game this upcoming Sunday in Iowa City.
