(Chicago, IL) – Wrigley Field just witnessed another special event on Saturday afternoon with the Iowa Hawkeyes overcoming the Northwestern Wildcats 10-7 in the final seconds of the game. The Hawkeyes blocked a punt and drove the ball down to the 43-yard line. With just a few seconds remaining, he put the ball in through the upright on a 53-yarder to win the game. Kicker Drew Stevens’ 53-yarder is the second game-winner of his career with the other against Minnesota last season.
Iowa was successful on defense as well with 170 total yards of offense allowed on just 61 plays offered up. Addison Ostrenga earned the lone touchdown in the game. That was on a bass by Deacon Hill as he passed for 65 yards and went 10-15 on the night. Hill’s passes for touchdowns have only been to tight ends this season with a total of three this season. Leshon Williams led in the run game with 79 yards on 24 carries, Defensively, Jay Higgins led the team in tackles with 12 and had six solo tackles on the night, his seventh game with 10 or more tackles this season.
Northwestern was led by Brendan Sullivan who went 12-19 for 81 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Trus III and Cam Porter each rushed for under 80 yards combined. Xander Mueller led in tackles with 19 with 12 solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Iowa’s 170 yards allowed on defense are the lowest since 2022 when playing Nevada with 151 yards in that game. The Hawkeye’s defense has held their opponent to under 400 yards or less in 23 consecutive games, the most nationally.
Iowa will take on Rutgers in their next matchup at home this upcoming Saturday, November 11th with a time to be determined.
