(Anita, IA) – The CAM Cougars are off to the races and are ready to head to their meet this evening at Treynor. With a small but mighty team of five girls and one boy, they are looking to compete at the top of their level. The Cougars finished their first meet of the season in 3rd place overall for the girl’s team as Lyndsey Chaney finished in 14th with 30:07.7 time followed by Carley Dennis in 16th, Mia South in 17th, and Ellen and Megan Gerlock in 18th and 19th. The lone boy, Dustin McCurdy finished the meet with a 33:43.8 time in 48th place.
As that concluded the first meet results, CAM improved in their second meet as coach Brown saw times drop by as much as two minutes. Lyndsey Chaney finished in 21st place with a 28:27.51 time which was 1:40 better than her previous time. The Cougars also saw improvement from Carly Dennis as she finished in 32nd place with a 30:48.08 time in the 5k race. CAM ended up 7th in the meet overall with a total of 159 points to much bigger teams but saw improvement overall. Coach Deb Brown looks to continue the same training but add onto the workouts themselves to help her team learn their pace.
Homecoming is coming up for CAM later this month, and the cross-country team wants to get involved in the homecoming festivities. Coach Brown says that the team is sponsoring a homecoming run and walk on September 26th after school at Victory Park in Anita at 4:30 p.m. There will be ice cream and water for everybody who comes and supports the Cougars cross-country team.
CAM is off to the races this evening at the Treynor Cross Country Invite which starts at 5:00 p.m.
