(Treynor, IA) – Last season, Treynor went 5-4 and defeated some tough competition along the way. They also had many obstacles in the way of the season as they were starting a new quarterback Ben Casey last year. He was thrown into the role his sophomore year but has gained more experience over the course of last season. Head Coach Jeff Casey is looking to his now junior quarterback to take the snaps against St. Albert.
The Cardinals will have 13 seniors this football season on the field and all of which have been leaders so far in practice. When talking to Coach Casey, he explained that there is not just one leader on the field, all of his seniors lead in a different way and push the younger athletes to get better during and even after practice.
Defensively, Treynor is bringing back a lot of players on the defensive side of the field. Compared to last year, Coach Casey wants to see his team be athletic and avoid allowing the big plays against St. Albert, and just focus on their game.
St. Albert will be playing a high-effort contest as they have been an athletic team in the past. Among this year’s team, there is a difference in confidence with Treynor on the field and the level of play that this Cardinals team will have going into the season. Last year, these two teams matched up in their first game of the season where Treynor won 21-17 with a new offense, and are confident they can pull it off again.
The Cardinals and Falcons match up at 7:00 pm at St. Albert Catholic High School.
