(Ames, IA) — An Ames nurse practitioner won’t be practicing anytime soon after being accused of running a prostitution scheme. Carl Markley has surrendered his license after being hit with a multitude of criminal charges, including sexual exploitation of a minor and human trafficking. Prosecutors say Markley used his position as the head of the Wellness Clinic in Ankeny to run the scheme. He’s accused of recruiting people to participate in sexual acts in exchange for money under the guise of research. The Iowa Board of Nursing has also accused Markley of writing hundreds of bogus prescriptions.
