(Exira) Woodbine (21-7) travels to Atlantic to take on Exira-EHK (21-4) in post-season softball action. This will be the third matchup between the Tigers and the Spartans this year.
Woodbine has lost the last two matchups against the Spartans this season losing the first of the two games by a final score of 4-3. In the second game, Exira-EHK was able to pack on the runs winning 11-1 over the Tigers.
Looking further into that last matchup, Exira-EHK was led by Hannah Nelson who went 2-4 in the ballgame with a single and a home run. Shay Burmeister had a single and a double and was able to slap two runs on the board. Riley Miller also helped on the stat sheet, going 2-2 with two singles and an RBI. She also earned the win in the last game allowing six hits on one earned run and struck out 8 on the night. Woodbine was led by Nicole Sherer who went 1-3 in the game with a double and brought in the lone run for the Tigers in the ballgame.
Taking a step back at Exira-EHK’s last game against Audubon, the Spartans were led by Shay Burmeister who had two hits with a single and a double. Burmeister has played well against Woodbine this season but had been a bit in a slump up until the game against the Wheelers.
Exira-EHK also had even further success overall from Riley Miller in the circle as she had nine strikeouts, and allowed four hits on two earned runs. She has been the Spartans’ go-to pitcher all season posting a 1.42 ERA allowing 88 hits on just 24 earned runs and a record of 17-3.
In Woodbine’s last game against Riverside, the Tigers were able to overcome the Bulldogs by a final score of 2-0. Leading the Tigers was sophomore Anna Jochims who went 2-3 earning two singles and bringing in one of the two runs for Woodbine. The Tigers’ success was also due to their pitcher Charlie Pryor who allowed just two hits and struck out 11 Bulldogs in the ballgame. Pryor is one pitcher that the Spartans have been looking out for all season as she has had great success overall in the circle.
The Spartans are looking to put on the offensive pressure coming into this game as they have been able to maintain an offensive and defensive balance on the field, making them one of the most successful teams in the Rolling Valley Conference. Coach Schwery credits her team and the parents for the success of the Spartans this season.
Exira-EHK and Woodbine will battle it out this evening at Atlantic with a game start time at 5 pm. This game will air on KSOM 96.5 with Zach Collins on the call.
