(Greenfield) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is slowly lowering the water level at Meadow Lake in Greenfield. The lake will be lowered three feet to help improve the size of the bluegills.
Bryan Hayes, Fisheries Biologist with the Department of Natural Resources, says the drawdown is a common fisheries management technique for improving panfish size. Hayes says Meadow Lake has an abundance of seven-inch bluegills that lack the quality and size anglers are looking for.
Hayes says the drawdown will have a minimal effect on public access to Meadow Lake. The boat ramp will be usable, and the lake will remain open during this project. The lake will be refilled starting in September.
Meadow Lake is a 34-acre lake in the middle of the 317-acre Meadow Lake Fish and Wildlife Area located in the north-central part of Adair County. The maximum depth is 20 feet, with an average depth of 7.3 feet.
