(Des Moines, IA) — The governor of Iowa is signing a bill to restrict lessons on sexual orientation in schools. On Friday, Republican Governor Kim Reynolds signed the law that will ban teachers from raising issues of sexual orientation or gender identity in the classroom. The bill also orders the removal of all books depicting anything sexual from school libraries, however religious texts like the bible will be exempt from the ban. All democrats in the state opposed the bill, but it passed along party lines where Republicans hold the majority in the state’s House and Senate. Reynolds has previously signed two laws last month that ban gender-affirming care for minors and don’t allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender.
