(Des Moines) A new school safety app will help students and parents report anonymous tips to prevent violence. The Safe+Sound app launched yesterday morning as school districts across the state responded to fake active shooter calls.
Around 23 school districts across Iowa, including Creston, were targeted with fake active shooter threats on Tuesday morning. At approximately 10:30 a.m., the Union County Dispatch Center received a call from an unknown male reporting a shooting at Creston High School. The Iowa Department of Public Safety determined this incident was part of a statewide “Swatting” call to 30 police departments.
The app is part of Governor Kim Reynolds’ 100-million-dollar school safety initiative.
