(Kansas City, MO) An 82-72 victory over #14 Oklahoma moves the Iowa State Cyclone women’s basketball team into the championship game in the Big 12 Conference Tournament.
Iowa State led by three at halftime and then outscored the Sooners 24-14 in the 3rd quarter. The lead was as big as 17 points with under 10:00 to play. Oklahoma came back with an 11-0 run in the 4th quarter to get within six, but the Cyclones responded with an Ashley Joens basket and Nyamer Diew 3-pointer.
Joens posted 22 points and 8 rebounds. Lexi Donarski contributed 20 points. Diew came off the bench to score 19. She was 6/10 from the field and 4/6 from long range. ISU made 11/27 3-pointers.
The 21-9 Cyclones will meet #15 Texas. The Big 12 Tourney championship game is Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The 25-8 Longhorns were a 64-57 winner on Saturday against Oklahoma State. Iowa State’s last Big 12 Tournament championship came in 2001.
