(Anita) CAM hosts Tri-Center in a Class 1A Region 5 quarterfinal on Tuesday. The game will air on 96.5 FM KSOM.
The Cougars are 16-6 and the Trojans are 13-9. CAM coach Joe Wollum previews the contest. “#1 obviously they are well-coached. You can see the discipline they have both on offense and defense. They run some great stuff on offense and we have to try and prepare on a short notice. Defensively they are very sound in their zone. We are going to have to try and find some ways to try to exploit that and create some matchups for ourselves to be successful.”
Tri-Center comes in with a three game win streak including their 63-29 victory over West Harrison on Thursday. CAM advanced to this game with a 74-31 win against Orient-Macksburg last week. They led 20-1 after one quarter and had four players scored in double figures. They had 25 assists on their 31 made baskets led by Emma Follmann with 9 and Kiera Nichols with 7. “It was really good and the other part of that was, not just the ball movement, but we had girls cutting. Carley Dennis had 3 or 4 back cuts and got good passes from Kiera and Emma so we were moving well without the ball.”
Coach Wollum points to rebounding and controlling the pace as big priorities against Tri-Center. “We are going to have to keep them off the glass. They are going to have a height advantage. We’re really going to have to make sure we rebound the ball well. We are going to try and press and play up tempo. They maybe want to play a hair slower than we do. It’s going to be a battle of who gets the game playing at their speed. If we have to slow down I think that favors them. If we can get them to speed up I think that favors us.”
The winner advances to the regional semifinal round in Sloan on Friday to face either #6 (19-1) Westwood or (8-14) Boyer Valley.
