(Audubon) The Audubon girls wrestling team will return to action on January 7th at the Logan-Magonlia Tournament.
Coach Tyler Christensen says his team has been making progress. “We are starting to have a couple more wins here and there. They are starting to recognize moves. They came and helped me at a youth tournament up in Manning and what I thought was really neat is they were identifying what kids should be doing to be successful.”
Audubon’s lineup was limited due to injuries early in the year, but they are getting closer to full strength. Kori Sybesma is the most recent to return. “She got a couple of wins at our last tournament and Stefi Beisswenger got a win. Those are two kids that hadn’t wrestled much the first part of the season and now they are back and healthy. Laura McCarville and Emily Foran they are doing some really good things and are really aggressive, so that’s good to see. Jordan Mulford finally is coming back for us. She tweaked her knee and now she’s cleared to wrestle in January. She’s a good, hard-nosed kid so we’ll see what she can do on the mat.”
Coach Christensen says the team needs to keep working hard moving forward. “We have to perfect those basics and drill, drill, drill until it’s muscle memory. We have to be in shape. We are still conditioning and doing everything we can to make sure we are the best we can be.”
Emily Foran and Laura McCarville are tied for the lead in wins with six each. The last competition was the Raccoon River Wrestling ADM Invite on December 17th. Emily Foran and Kori Sybesma each placed 5th. Laura McCarville and Stefi Beisswenger each placed 6th.
