(Des Moines, IA) — The Des Moines Police Department and the Iowa Department of Public Safety are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting. Officers shot an armed teen during a domestic dispute yesterday. They say the 16-year-old boy raised a handgun toward officers after several minutes of de-escalation efforts. More than one officer fired at the boy. He died at a local hospital. This is the city’s first officer-involved shooting of the year. The officers have been placed on critical incident leave during the investigation.
