(Council Bluffs) Lewis Central defeated Atlantic 54-50 in a game down to the wire on Friday night at Lewis Central.
The Trojans held leads of 14-11 in the first quarter and extended their advantage to 26-21 at the halftime break. Colton Rasmussen scored seven first-half points, and Michael Hotze added five for the visitors. Jackson McLaren went four-for-five at the free throw line and added to the cause with six first-half points.
The Trojans added to their lead with a 14-12 advantage in the third quarter and led 39-33. However, the Titans rallied back in the final frame. Boston Hensley led the charge with eight fourth-quarter points, and Owen Thomas bagged a shot with 3:41 left to play to tie the game at 41-41. Lewis Central held Atlantic to just one field goal in the final frame, but Atlantic’s 8-10 free throw shooting kept the game close until the final bell. Atlantic finished the contest 12-for-16 at the free throw line.
Jackson McLaren led Atlantic with 16 points, Colton Rasmussen scored 12, and Hotze added eight points. Jayden Proehl scored seven points, Kinnick Juhl, 3, Caden Andersen, 2, and Carter Pellett added two points.
Owen Thomas led the Titans with 14 points, Nash Paulsen, 12, Colby Souther, Curtis Witte, and Boston Hensley each scored eight points. Jonathan Humpal, 2, and Luke Woltman, 2.
Atlantic hosts Nodaway Valley this afternoon at 6:00 p.m. Lewis Central plays Freeman at the Mid-America Center at 4:30 p.m.
