(Greenfield) 2-2 Nodaway Valley/O-M hosts 1-5 Martensdale-St. Marys in a boys basketball matchup on KSOM Thursday.
The Wolverines are led by three upperclassmen scoring in double figures. Boston DeVault averages 15 points, Dawson Nelson 13.8, and Avery Phillippi 12.5 points per game. Coach Jeremy Blake says, “Boston DeVault, Avery Phillippi are the big returners for us and guys that have been leading us. I’ve really challenged them to affect in other ways besides scoring. Those guys are towards the top on our team in rebounds and assists. That’s a huge emphasis for me this year for those two to get the ball to their teammates because that’s going to open up the game for them, ultimately. Dawson Nelson has come on really, really strong to start the year.”
Nodaway Valley/O-M made a run at 6-0 Bedford on Tuesday. They were within two going into the 4th quarter, but fell short 58-50. “Second half they were up 11 points and then going into the 4th we were only down two. That was a huge thing to have is that grit there. Finding a way to put ourselves in position to win. Credit to Bedford. They had some guys that don’t normally hit shots from the outside that were knocking in shots.”
The girls game will tip at 6:00 p.m. and the boys game will follow. Both will air on 96.5 FM KSOM.
