(Oakland) The Riverside Girls Wrestling Tournament on Friday had wrestlers from over 20 teams.
Riverside ended up with five finalists. Molly Allen, Macy Woods, and Paola Gonzalez all won their weight class. Allen, a defending state champion for Underwood last season, made her debut for the Lady Dawgs. She registered three pins along with a 14-7 decision over the runner-up. Woods pinned all three of her opponents on the day. Gonzalez had two pins and a bye. Ana Wilson and Jayden Carrigan each placed 2nd. Veronica Schechinger put together a 3rd place finish.
SWAT (Griswold, Nodaway Valley, Atlantic, SW Valley, and CAM) put six wrestlers in the finals. Winning championships for the Valkyrie were Maddie McCoy, Grace Britten, and Ellen Gerlock. All three of them pinned every opponent they faced. Coming in 2nd were Quincy Sorensen, Evy Marlin, and Mia South. Paige Baier earned 3rd in her weight class.
AHSTW’s lone wrestler, Bella Canada, earned a title. Canada won twice by fall and once by forfeit.
Auduon had Laura McCarville place 1st and Emily Foran come in 4th. McCarville had three pins and one decision.
