Marianne Jane (Savereide) Pauley was born on January 10, 1929 in Harlan, IA to Arthur H. and Luella S. (Comstock) Savereide. She was baptized at United Methodist Church in Harlan and attended Harlan Public Schools. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1947. She was involved in chorus, pep club, band, baton twirling, and school plays.
Marianne was united in marriage to Richard W. Pauley on February 15, 1948 and shared 74 years of marriage together. Three children were born to this union: David, Joni, and Jill. Richard and Marianne lived in Harlan until 1983, when they moved to Scottsdale, AZ. In 1988, they moved to Lincoln, NE where their three children live.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She also was a member and in the choir at Paradise Valley Methodist Church in Paradise Valley, AZ and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE. Marianne had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She started singing solos in grade school. She participated in many variety shows and musicals, including the Musical Man, Hello Dolly, South Pacific, and the lead in Oklahoma.
Marianne enjoyed watching sports, especially Nebraska football, volleyball and women’s basketball; the Kansas City Royals; the Kansas City Chiefs; and the Kansas Jayhawks. Marianne and Richard played golf together for years. They won the Harlan Golf & Country Club Husband and Wife Tournament in 1981. She also participated in the women’s golf league. Marianne loved animals, especially her dogs and cats.
She belonged to many bridge clubs over the years. She also participated in Literary Club. Marianne was involved in the Eastern Star and Rebekah’s. She was Rainbow Worthy Advisor. She was the Co-Chair for the Harlan Bi-Centennial in 1979. Marianne worked at the Shelby County State Bank in Harlan after high school. Richard and Marianne moved to Omaha when Richard was in the service. She then worked at the Stockyards National Bank. When they moved to Scottsdale, she worked as the receptionist for Mortgage Network, Inc and she was the bookkeeper for Contact Travel when they moved to Lincoln, NE. She also obtained her real estate license.
Marianne liked to entertain. They had many New Years Eve parties, 4th of July parties, and bridge parties. Her favorite party was their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Marianne was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. Her children were the most important part of her life. She attended all of their functions and activities and was always their number one fan.
She passed away peacefully in Lincoln, NE on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 with her family by her side attaining the age of 93. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Norgaard. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Richard Pauley of Lincoln, NE; her son David (Donna) Pauley of Lincoln; daughter Joni Pauley of Lincoln; daughter Jill Pauley (Michela Bahensky) of Lincoln; 3 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister Patty Pedersen of New Berlin, WI; sister Twyla Plumb of Leawood, KS and nieces, nephew and many friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be Saturday, October 29th at 11AM at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan. Visitation will be Friday, October 28th from 5PM to 7PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Harlan Cemetery. The Pauley Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
