Funeral Services for 66 year old Bill Weitl of Manning will be Friday, October 21st at 10:30 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Visitation will be Thursday, October 20th from 5PM to 7PM at the Ohde Funeral Home and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Manning Cemetery. The Ohde Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
William (Bill) Kenneth Weitl, son of Raymond and Lorraine (Stangl) Weitl was born January 25, 1956 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. His family farmed east of Templeton. He attended school at Sacred Heart School in Templeton until the 3rd grade, then Manning Community School, graduating with the Class of 1975. After high school Bill attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge for a year.
From 1976 – 1980 Bill worked at Garst and Thomas Seed Corn Company in Coon Rapids. During this time he moved to Manning and on March 8, 1980 he was united in marriage with Shona Hagedorn at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Three children were born to this union. From 1980 to 1991 he drove semi-truck and in 1991 to 2013 he worked at Pepsi in Carroll. Bill then worked at Puck Custom Enterprise south of Manning, retiring in 2018.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed going to car shows with his 1976 Monte Carlo Car. He liked the Kansas City Chiefs Team, watching Classic Tractors, Western shows and the Bob Ross TV Channel. He also enjoyed walking on the trails in Manning. He absolutely loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
Bill’s health deteriorated the last few months and he died late on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 66 years, 8 months and 23 days of age.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mandi Weitl-Sandage in 2016; brother, Joseph Weitl; parents-in-law, Roger and Deanna Hagedorn.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shona Weitl of Manning; two sons: Matt Weitl and friend Candice of Clarksville, IA; Billy Weitl and wife Sarah of Carroll; son in Law Ryan Sandage of Templeton; eight grandchildren: Linkin Weitl, Kyah Weitl, Mya Sandage, Skyler Sandage, Jadyn Weitl, Zoe Myers, Zac Myers and Zadyn Myers; five siblings: Diane and husband Jerry Berger of Arcadia; Mike Weitl and wife Jan of Templeton; Jim Weitl and wife Sue of Carroll; Pat Franklin of Washington State; Kathy and husband Mike Hillard of Missouri; sisters-and brother-in laws: Shelli and husband Bob Barsby of Manning; Troy Hagedorn and wife Monica of Audubon; Tonya and husband Keith Benna of Ida Grove; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
