(Audubon) Postseason volleyball for Audubon brings a home matchup with Nodaway Valley. We’ll have the game on KSOM.
Wheeler coach Molly Lange says her team has made steady progress through the season. “It seems like about every two weeks we level up and hit another stride of consistency. We’ve been playing really great volleyball at this point, it’s just the little things now of making sure we hold that energy. I think our out of system ball is so much better. Our ball control is to the point where we really can compete against some higher level teams.”
Mattie Nielsen has returned from injury to make a huge impact. She has 278 kills, 132 digs, and 37 aces on the year. “Mattie is someone we rely heavily on. Basically our whole entire game runs through her whether it’s serve receive or for a big swing. She’s really stepped it up at the service line the last couple of weeks. That was something she had been struggling with, but has turned a corner. It’s been really good to see us go on a run when she’s in the back row as well.”
Freshman Harlow Miller is having a strong debut season with 143 kills, a team leading 65 blocks, and 45 ace serves. “Harlow Miller has really stepped up strong the last couple of weeks and become so much more consistent. She’s really kind of turned into another, she’s always been a terminator for us, but much more of a formidable person up at the net. She’s going to put the ball down. We’ve been looking to get her the ball more and feed her.”
Addie Hocker directs the offense with 511 assists along with 84 digs and 50 aces. “She’s been so strong the last couple weeks. Doing a much better job of reading situations, understanding the defense, and knowing where and who should be getting the ball to at different times. Really truly what you want out of your setter. She’s stepped into that role really nicely.”
Audubon brings a 14-16 record into the postseason while Nodaway Valley is 9-20. “Truthfully we can beat anybody, bat the same time if we don’t play our best and don’t play intentional volleyball we could lose to anybody too.”
Coach Lange wants to see the team put together a complete match with a high level of energy throughout. We’ll have pregame coverage on the air at around 6:45 p.m. The first serve is at 7:00 in Audubon.
