(Griswold) The back end of the schedule is not friendly to Griswold. The Tiger football team opposes Fremont-Mills on Friday night.
Coach Chase Wallace’s team lost to #5 Lenox last week, they have 10th rated Fremont-Mills on Friday, and host #7 West Harrison next week. “We are just trying to get better. Get these young guys ready for the future. Seniors Aiden Kennedy and Cash Turner have really done a good job of setting the stepping stones for these guys. They don’t quit. As seniors I know it’s got to be frustrating for them. They are still striving and they know they are helping build the future of the program. We’re just taking steps each day to get that success. The type of consistency that Lenox and Fremont-Mills have is what we are striving for in the future. We just let them know they need to come to practice very day, keep working hard, and the results will show up.” Wallace says, “The future is bright as long as they keep putting in the work.”
Fremont-Mills enters the game at 5-1. During their five game win streak they have an average margin of victory at 37 points per game. “Fremont-Mills is about as stout as they always are it seems like. They are one of the most consistent, well-coached teams each and every year. (Braxten) Blackburn and (Taylor) Reed run the ball hard. (Payten) Van Houten has had a good year running the ball as well. They are going to be physical up front. They want to just drive the ball down the field on you with the run game. Defensively they are fast and read the play well. Between Van Houten and Blackburn they have about 20 sacks on the year, so we have to be ready offensively for that speed off the edge. We have to take good care of the ball and just do our assignments.”
Wallace admits the physicality of Lenox was not matched by his team last week, but they did execute will in some instances.
Five underclassmen have scored a touchdown for Griswold this season.
