(Avoca) A lot of positive energy surrounds the AHSTW football program right now. The Vikings are 5-0 and ranked 5th in Class A by the Associated Press.
AHSTW hosts 1-4 Sidney in a game we’ll have on KSOM. The live video coverage will be available HERE. Here’s Viking coach GG Harris on his team’s 5-0 start, “We have young men that are willing to come to work every day and get better every day. They want to be challenged. They want to continue to learn and they just want to see how far we can push their potential. It’s been a great balance from the beginning as far as maturity with our experience as well as some of the youth, some of the young guys coming in.” Harris says, “3:45 is the best part of our day. When you can surround that positive energy around a program a lot of really good things happen. We are taking it one game at a time, but we are really excited about where we are at.”
Following a trip to the dome in 2018 the Vikings endured a few years that didn’t quite live up to their typical high standard. “We’d have meetings off and on in the spring and the summer about what you want this year to look like. What is your legacy going to be? What do you want young kids to look up to? Same thing with the staff, what do we need to do to put ourselves in position to be competing at a level that we know we can? A lot of it was little things. Being more consistent in the weight room, showing up to class early, sitting in the front row. We talked about discipline last year and it has carried over into this year. It wasn’t one thing, it was a bunch of little things. We think little things make big differences. Huge credit to our student-athletes and the guys I get to work with each day including our staff.”
Pregame coverage on Friday will start with the “In the Huddle” show at 5:15.
