(Undated) — The US Surface Transportation Board listened to two hours of testimony last night from Iowans about the Canadian Pacific Railroad’s plans to buy Kansas City Southern. Canadian Pacific has offered money to towns for not opposing the deal – including 10-million dollars to Davenport, three-million to Bettendorf and Muscatine, and 750-thousand dollars to Le Claire. Eastern Iowa towns are expected to see the biggest traffic increases. One study estimates up to an additional 15 trains a day. The board is expected whether to approve the purchase early next year.
