Riverside boys earn title and girls place 2nd at Red Oak

(Red Oak) The 3rd Annual Paul Fish Cross Country Invitational was held Monday at Red Oak Country Club. Team champions were the Riverside boys and Clarinda girls. Individual winners were Clarinda’s Treyton Schaapherder and Mayson Hartley.

The Clarinda girls scored 19 points. Hartley won the race in 20:19. Teammate Raenna Henke was the runner-up in 21:14. Placing 3rd for the Cardinals was Maya Hunter while Callie King ran 5th and Amelia Hesse 8th.

Riverside’s 2nd place team finish was led by three runners in the top ten. Bailey Richardson was 4th, Lydia Erickson 7th, and Brecken Pierce 9th. The Lady Dawgs also used Becca Cody’s 13th place run and a 16h place showing from Danika Feigenbutz towards their team score of 49.

Creston, Shenandoah, and Red Oak rounded out the five girls teams.

Riverside edged Clarinda 31-35 for the boys team crown. The Bulldogs put three runners in the top six and five in the top eleven. Mason McCready ran a time of 19:05 to earn 3rd. Brody Henderson was right behind in 4th. Eric Duhachek ran 6th, Dawson Henderson 10th, and Teegan Schechinger 11th.

Clarinda teammates Treyton Schaaperder and Kyle Wagoner finished 1-2. The Cardinals also had Alex Lihs in the top ten with his 8th place run.

Creston, Shenandoah, East Mills, SW Valley, and Bedford rounded out the team field.
