Benjamin Douglas Heath age 75, of Atlantic, IA, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
Benjamin Douglas Heath was born April 5, 1947, in Cass County to Elmer and Janis (Conklin) Heath. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1965 and married the love of his life Verla on June 4, 1966. From their union, three children were born: Noele Tyson, Jeremy Heath, and Dawn Hepler.
Ben is survived by his daughters; Noele Tyson (Carroll, Iowa), Dawn Hepler (Atlantic, Iowa), and six grandkids; Kelsea Tyson, Taylor (Noe) Sanchez, Tatum Heath, Benjamin Heath, Hillary (Ethan) Zellmer, and Heath Hepler, and 9 great-grandkids; Lux-Anna, Demri (DJ), Jace, Ove, Zach, Oscar, Oliver and Zola, siblings; Debbie Weitzel, Judy (Bob) Gross, Allen (Michelle) Heath; sisters and brothers in law; Carol Gronseth, Doug (Sherri) Schroeter, Neil (Lavonne) Schroeter; and many nieces and nephews.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife Verla (Schroeter) Heath, son Jeremy Heath, parents Elmer and Janis Heath and Harold and Anna Schroeter, brother-in-law Kurt Weitzel and brother-in-law Stephen, Gronseth.
Ben was a hard worker. He made providing for his family his number one priority. Ben enjoyed working and had many stories to tell about his adventures while traveling for work. Some of his positions included retail management for Anthony’s, and management for Meader Book Distributing and he retired as a security guard at Harrah’s casino. Ben and his wife Verla enjoyed camping and fishing, he also enjoyed golfing with his son, brother, and brothers-in-law. His greatest passion was spending quality time with his family and grandkids and great-grandkids. Ben will be desperately missed by everyone that knew him.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA, with a committal to follow at Southlawn Cemetery in Atlantic, IA. A luncheon will be held following the committal in the reception room at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home.
Open visitation with the family will take place from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Schmidt Family Funeral Home.
