(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa House has passed a bill that requires school districts to post a list of books in the school library. The schools will also have to provide parents with an outline of how to seek the removal of a book.
Republican State Representative Phil Thompson of Boone says the legislation created a transparency standard many districts already follow. Democratic State Representative Sharon Steckman of Mason City says many districts will have to buy new software to meet the requirement.
A similar bill was on Wednesday’s Iowa Senate schedule for debate.
